The Wicked co-stars are set to reunite at the Barbican in a beloved Sondheim musical

London has a new power couple; well, at least as far at the stage is concerned. Wicked co-stars Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande will reunite on stage at the Barbican for a new production of Sunday in the Park with George – and we predict a sell out.

Performances will take place across the summer 2027 season, seeing the Barbican reopen with a bang following its upcoming closure for a multi-million pound refurbishment. Directed by Marianne Elliot and produced by Empire Street Productions, the classic Stephen Sondheim musical was inspired by French painter George Seurat, exploring his relationships with his mistress Dot and his great-grandson, also named George, while single-mindedly attempting to create a masterpiece. While Bailey and Grande’s roles have not been officially announced, it is expected they will takes the leads of George and Dot respectively.

The production will see Grande make her West End debut, with the show’s run expected to coincide with the ten London dates already announced for her 2026 world tour. Bailey, meanwhile, has fine form on the London stage and is currently starring as Richard II in a new Bridge Theatre production of Shakespeare’s famous play. Having begun his career in the Royal Shakespeare Company, and joining the cast of Les Misérables aged eight, he has also taken roles in productions including Othello, The Last Five Years and Company, for which he won an Olivier Award in 2019.

Representing another coup for the London stage, which will see a stellar roster of A-list actors tread the boards this year, tickets are guaranteed to sell fast. On sale from May 2026 via the Barbican website, mark your diaries now – they won’t be available for long.
