Emma Watson & Kristen Stewart play Shakespeare’s Juliet in the2020 Pirelli calendar
Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, Mia Goth and Claire Foy play the role of Juliet for the 2020 Pirelli Calendar, shot byPaolo Roversi
Dating back to 1964, the Pirelli Calendar was originally created a provocative pin-up calendar as a corporate gift for important clients. It is since shed its titillating connotations and is now considered a much-anticipated work of art, which challenges industry-leading photographers to shoot the world’s most respected and relevant female icons. Previously, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Tim Walker, Annie Leibovitz and Patrick Demarchelier have captured Serena Williams, Fran Lebowitz and Gigi Hadid, and each calendar has become emblematic of the era in which it was created.
The 47th edition of the iconic calendar is shot by revered Italian photographer Paolo Roversi, known for his dreamlike sensibility and intimate portraiture. Roversi took influence from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet for the photographic series, placing Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, Yara Shahidi, Mia Goth, Chris Lee, Claire Foy, Indya Moore, Rosalía Vila Tobella and Stella Roversi in the role of Juliet. The 132-page series was aptly shot in Paris and Verona and follows the premise that “Juliet is in every woman”. It is accompanied by a short film in which Roversi interviews each of his nine leading ladies and documents their individual interpretations of the heroine.
Roversi said of his calendar: “I am still searching for my Juliet and I will be searching all my life. Because Juliet is a dream.”
