Following hot on the heels of Frieze Week, the LAPADA art and antiques fair will return to Mayfair’s Berkeley Square this month, bringing with it some of the finest galleries, dealers and specialists from across the globe. Running from 23-27 October 2024, and with this year seeing the LAPADA Association celebrating its 50th anniversary, it promises to be a truly exceptional event that no art lover should miss.
Never one to rest on its laurels, as well as hosting more than 80 exhibitors from around the world, this year will see the debut of LAPADA Fringe. This new cultural programme aims to put a spotlight on Mayfair’s history and creativity with a series of exclusive events and collaborations. Among the highlights is a tour and recital at Handel Hendrix House on 24 October, promising an exclusive glimpse inside the building that two very different music legends – G.F. Handel and Jimi Hendrix – have called home. There will also be special art tours at Brown’s Hotel, a display of rare folio publications and expert consultations at literary specialist Heywood Hill, and priority bookings for LAPADA guests at Michelin-starred restaurant Tamarind.
Over at the main fair, meanwhile, there’s plenty for seasoned collectors and newcomers alike to look forward to. Interiors enthusiasts shouldn’t miss LAPADA’s partnership with luxury hand-painted wallpaper maker Fromental, who will be showing both new designs as part of this year’s Berkeley Square Collective stand with interior designer, Stephanie Barba Mendoza, and wrapping the entire LAPADA venue in one of its signature prints, while art lovers should make a beeline for the Gallery V from Schwyz stand, where a rare Monet painted in the last year of the artist’s life, Maison à travers les roses, will be on display.
For a slice of London’s creative history, look to McKenzie Art & Design, who will be offering a series of black and white photographs by famed Scottish photographer Joseph McKenzie. Taken during McKenzie’s time at London’s Central St Martins art school in the 1950s, these stylish never-before-seen fashion photographs will make an elegant addition to any collection.
Elsewhere, there will be an exceptional range of fine jewellery on offer, spanning a vast array of time periods and styles. Among the highlights will be Kallos Fine Jewellery’s collection of ancient coins, amulets, and intaglios, which expertly blend historic treasures with modern craftsmanship. Also don’t miss Mark Goodger Antiques, who will be showcasing a rare walnut and silver mechanical vanity box once belonging to Anne Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria.
“We are thrilled to welcome visitors from around the world to experience this year’s LAPADA Berkeley Square Fair,” said Freya Simms, Chief Executive of LAPADA. “The 2024 edition promises to be our most dynamic yet, with an extraordinary array of exhibitors, exciting new additions such as the LAPADA Fringe, and a celebration of LAPADA’s rich 50-year history. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or exploring the world of art and antiques for the first time, we look forward to sharing this unique opportunity to discover remarkable treasures in the heart of Mayfair.”
